Legend of Grimrock II

Long time no see! Right?

Well, I’m back and I hope I will be able to post more often. I just didn’t have much idea as to what to write. The only thing that has been updated recently, is my english stories site, that I believe has a link in the side menu.

The site is actually linked to what I want to write about. I want to write about the game called Legend of Grimrock II. I had the first game for about two years now. The actuall game, not a pirated version. And then I read that a second installment will be released. That happened in October 2014. And I got it the same year for Christmas.

Though, to be honest, I bought it earlier and just got the money for Christmas.

So I was playing the game, at that time, there were not enough mods, but I made due. I even started on the original game, though I don’t like to play the original unles it has been transformed into a mod. So I’m hoping that Komag or someone will come through like Komag did with LoG 1’s main map.

However, the character system has been revamped to almost perfection. Why almost? Well… They still have to add the choice of elven race to pick from.

I mean, sure, I can just pick human and make my own portrait for them, but that’s not elves…

On the other hand, it’s now easier to play with only one character. Because regardless if you’re a mage or a warrior, you have the same skillset. My recommendation for single cahracter playing is to pick a war mage or whatever it’s called.

Another thing, that has been ravamped, is the alchemy system. You no longer need flasks but on the other hand, you need to have at least one point in the alchemy skill in order to actually do alchemy. Also, if you have the correct ingredients, it let’s you brew potions that permanently raise your strength, stamina, vitality and so on. In Legend of Grimrock 1, this was only possible through mods, for example the mod called Forbidden Halls, which is perfect and if you play Grimrock, I think you should give it a try.

There were other things that were improved, an entire race was added and new portraits were made, which really doesn’t concern me, as I play almost strictly with custom portraits. Especially now, that I figured out how to put them in Grimrock 2. In order to put custom portraits in Grimrock 2, you have to name them in a speciall way. The name of the portrait needs to be: race_gender_something.tga

If named in any other way, the portraits won’t work. I think.

Okay, I checked my own portraits folder for LoG2 and yes, this is correct. You have to name them in that way or it won’t work.

Fun fact: Most of the custom portraits I’m using, are male. I think there are only two females. Maybe, but that’s a big maybe, there are three, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Well, changes or no changes, the game is amazing and if you’re into RPG, fantasy or dungeon crawlers, you just have to try it. Be it the first one or the second one. I think that the second one is better actually, but there’s one thing missing. Apart from the elven race, but there’s not much that I can do about that.

However, there’s a mod missing in the Log2. And that would be the Forbidden halls for LoG2, but since the creator of the Forbidden Halls is no longer active and probably decided to go and crawl into some hole or something, let’s just say, that that will probably not be happening.

Oh well… I’ll just have to find a mod that’s even better than that.

Bye.

Challenge of Magnus

Another Grimrock mod finished. This one is very short. Probably even shorter than the Tower of Bones. I mean, clear time for playing was under half an hour. I’m sure of that. But that’s because I ditched the stupid shop. It rearanget my items. And that was driving me crazy!

Still, it has some very interesting puzzles. Like, the tomb with the four altars. Or the room with the trapdoors. That was interesting.

However, as it was really short, I don’t have much to write. Only, maybe the fact there was no boss fight. Basically, once you get through the fourth? Or was it third? Level, there is this door and stairs up. And then, there is door and a lever. And once you pull that lever, it’s the end of the game. Magnus will give you your gold and you go on your merry way.

So, if I forget about the shortness of the mod, I did enjoy it. Though, I think there is too many torches. Why? Well, because if there are too many torches, the game laggs for me. I don’t like too many torches. A single torch every now and then is okay, but that’s because I can use the light spell. It’s my favourite spell. And then the fireball, lightning bolt and lightning burst.

So, go play it. It has no goromorgs, no spiders, but there are ogres. They are quite manageable though. Seeing as there is a grate that can separate them from you.

Also the dexterity puzzles with the skeleton archers and trapdoors are interesting.

All in all, I enjoyed this mod.

So, now the quiestion is, which mod should I play next? I’m running out of good mods. And that is because all the good stuff is no steam and I don’t have my Grimrock compatibile with steam. At least, I think. I should probably look into that. But that can wait. Seeing as I don’t even have steam.

Still though, Steam has soo many more mods than nexus…

See ya.

The Tower of Bones

Hah! Finished another LoG mod. This one called The Tower of Bones. Nice little mod made in 11×11 space to resemble tower. I think there are nine levels plus two optional ones. One thing I would like to point out is that if you decide to play it, I suggest not a new party. There are goromorgs and you won’t be able to reach high enough level to beat them. I mean, two of them in a small room? Well… Still, the mod is nicely done. Oh, another thing, torches are important. Only in one or two places, but are. Don’t leave them behind.

I mean, yes, there was this note about potions turning into torches, or something, but anyway, I didn’t test this theory, so there. It’s safer to bring the torches from the first two levels anyway. In case this method doesn’t work.

So, this mod. The first floor is practically devoid of anything major. I think there are two skeleton archers, but that’s it. Then you have to find rune and then a key. Opening the door, that leads to the star leading up. Yes, you start at the bottom. Then on the next floor there is a room with a bunch of preasure plates. Hehe. And some scavengers. Once you find the note, the puzzle will be easy. At least, I think it is easy.

However, I admit to not finding all of the secrets. Couldn’t be bothered. I just wanted to know what was after the torch opened door. Well, now I know. There was a bunch of goromorgs. Lucky me to play it with my 30 level party.

Never mind that.

102474692&bg=e0f6b2

Well, still, the mod is nice. And I will probably play it again in time. And when that comes, I will try to figure out what to do with the keys from the maze. Supposedly it is dexterity maze, but I just let the fireballs hit me. It doesn’t do much damage anyway… Maybe next time I’ll throw in a fire shield for good meassure.

Although, the treasures are quite easy to find. I mean, come on… the treasurry? Way too easy!

And I think the mod could be longer. I finished within half an hour. Or so. Very easy. Maybe next time I won’t play on easy. xD I mean, I am level 30… Even though I achieved that through the cheat item in The Lost continent mod.

Go play it. It’s worth it. Even if it is short. Get a party that has been through something already and go find the treasure.

And for those of you who don’t know where to get it, I got it from nexusmods. But it’s also on stream.

See ya.

Take that! You stupid Cube!

Tee Hee! Finally won against the cube! Yep, only needed level 30 characters. Oh, and it would have been nice for the guide I was using to be accurate… Well… I would probably want too much… It seems.

Because, for you to be able to fight the Undying one, you have to first make him immortal using the four parts found in the Cemetery level. Okay. Did that. Then, you have to run for it and get the weapon of power. Got that also. Next thing you need to do is to stun the fucker with the weapon and take out the parts you put in. Did also.

Only, in the gude it was that after you do this, he will be mortal or watever… Can a piile of metal even be mortal? Nevermind. Basically, after you take the parts out, he should be beatable. Only, he wasnt… So, I was freaking out, thinking there was a glitch, seeing as I was playing it as a mod…

And then, I decided to listen to the blabber that was being written on my screen. Something about a crystal of life. So, I went to it, found tainted ore, got it, had to stun him again, then I went and placed the tainted ore in and then I stunned him again. Only for him to be finally set aflame and beatable. So, the point is, this should have been in the guide and wasn’t.

Other than that, it was nice.

Just… I so don’t like the prison wall set. It’s so… I don’t know… Freaky?

Still, the game is nice and in time, I might play it again. With the same party. Hopefully, it will be much higher level at that point. And that means I will be able to win so much more easilly. xD

So, a bit more about the game as a whole. Like I said, I was playing it as a mod. Good for me, ne?

3

Also, while I don’t consider myself an expert on it, I certainly do consider myself somewhat knowledgeable. So, if you’re a Grimrock player and need help, feel free to ask.

I was watching some let’s play’s and I have to say… It is so creepy to watch it… Much much worse than playing it. I got no problem playing it, but I get scared watching it… Is that weird or what? I would say it is.

Okay, nevermind.

I’m just so glad I finally managed to play through the whole game. Now, it’s mod time. I will play through every single mod from nexusmods that is for grimrock. Already finished two. Might do one of them again with my epic party.

Heh, I might actually write about my Epic Party. xD

Okay, that’s enough for now.

See ya.

The Merchant’s Basement

Another great mod for Grimrock. This one is also very story driven. Although… Who would have thought that going for some wine would end up in defeating morronic trapped idiots that want to rule the world and saving witches from the villans hoards, ne?

BTW: Does anyone know wether that minotaur can be added to your party? is it just that you need to save him quickly? Or is it just dialogue and no minotaur at all?

Whatever. I was kinda dreading the boss fight, but in the end, I just went in it with all I had. Which ment freezing the fucker and then going at it with dismanteler (kudos to the creator for adding that sword!) and fireball spells. As the witch was high on firepower. Literally.

I had to backtrack several times and I thought I was a gonner when the two wardens appeared in that room with that single preasure plate. Only, thank god there was that button that lets you run away.

Moving-picture-winged-dragon-animated-gif

Oh, and I got a question. Is there a mortar and pestle in this mod or not? I addmit there were  practically no plants, but still, just curious.

On the other hand, the empty bottles came quite handy for holding down preasure plates. Hehe.

So, all in all, a good mod. Only thing I don’t like is that you cannot make your own characters. Like… the first one, I mean. I was trying to import Toorum, but no luck there… Still, even without him, it was a good play. Didn’t think I would finish this quickly though. Only started it today. A few hours ago…

Guess I should go back to playing with my two main parties. The Epic one that has imported portraits. And my starting one that has been through the first ten levels of the original Grimrock. (Was too much of a chicken to finish it)

By the way, is it just me, or are the prison walls really scarry? My main reason for not finishing the main game. Oh, and the fact that there were way too many goromorgs. I just don’t like those suckers!

So, if you want some action and hard puzzles, go play this mod. Supposedly there are two endings. I guess one is when Malbolna or what’s his name, asks you to get a dragon to free him. Only, you don’t have to. You can just go and get outa there. I’m not sure if that will result in fighting with the morron, or not, as I haven’t tried and went for the dragon instead, but you can try. Tell me what that does, kay?

See ya.

Legend of Grimrock – Remake

Hi,

I found a great Grimrock mod. It is actually the remake of the original game as a mod. And while ti might sound dull to you, it sounds great to me! Because, you cannot import characters into the original game. There, you always have to start from scratch. And I don’t like that. I like to play with my party and I like to continue play with it.

And this mod, while it is essentially the same as the original game, there is one big difference. And that is that it is a MOD! And it lets you import characters.s6590

So I can play the original Grimrock with my already leveled up party! As well as my EPIC PARTY! Isn’t that great?!

And it is all thanks to someone nicknamed Komag.

Okay, that’s all. If you’re interested in this mod, I got it from nexusmods.

See ya.

My own Dungeon

Hia!

This time, it’s, surprisingly, another post about Legend of Grimrock. And what about? First, I was able to finally update the game to the 1.3.6 or something version. So! I now can play and create custom dungeons. Yay!

s6982

And, I already downloaded some. And, the next thing is, I’m working on one of my own. It’s not much when it comes to puzzle, but hey, I like the more straightforward ones. Also, the levels are fairly small, but still… I plan on having many of them. It would be interesting to create neverending dungeon. xD Oh well… We’ll see.

See ya.

Toorum

Hi,

Another post about Legend of Grimrock.

See, I finally figured how to play as Toorum. Whose name I thought was Toonam. For some reason. Guess the letters were so close together it made that name instead. I’m still not sure which one I like better. Guess Toorum though. Since that is the true name.

Okay, moving on. For those of you that don’t know how to make Toorum work, it’s easy. Start a new game, I suggest easy, at least for the first time playing with him, then, without doing anything else, name the first character Toorum and press Enter. And, voila, the game starts and your only character is Toorum. He has double the speed. However, if you die, it’s the end, because there is noone else there to bring you to the crystal of life, so be carefull. The first floor is a breeze, the second is not so bad either. Third is fine thanks to a lot of closing door. Fourth… At this point, it will be a breeze too.

Legend_of_Grimrock_screenshot_04 (1)

And as for the next floors, I can’t tell, I’m not there yet. I’m kinda dreading the troll on the sixth floor, but… Let’s say I will have to lure him to the gate that can be closed. It’s the only way. Otherwise, I fear it will kill me. Still… I’m not there yet.

What I am really looking forward though, is the part when I get teh dismanteler. Hell yeah! The best sword in the game! And the best looking one!

Yes, I know there are some people that say the best sword is the sword of Nex, but… It’s the Dismanteler! It has lightning! Come on! What more can you want?! ‘Cept the weapon of power to be held in the other hand… Wonder if I’ll be able to take the Undying one on…

Has anyone ever completed the game with Toorum only? Tell me! What was your boss battel tactic?

Tell me! I want to know. :)

See ya.

Legend of Grimrock – Tips

Hi,

I just wanted to write some general tips for the game Legend of Grimrock which I came to like very much. Also, if you are a veteran in this game, it probably won’t be anything new to you. However, if you are new to this game and are looking for some generic tips, not the complete walkthrough, then I think you came to the right place.

Like I said, this is not the complete walkthrough. I would link to it, but I’m afraid that my blog would be again suspended for wrong links. And so, let’s go without links. If you’re looking for the complete walkthrough, just type it into google. The better ones should be the first few links.

Legend_of_Grimrock_screenshot_01

Okay, on with the tips.

First, when you find sacks, don’t just take the items inside. Take the sack too. It will increase your inventory space. I didn’t do this from the begining and had to drop some really nice items because of it. Therefore, I suggest you take the sacks. In the begining, it may be a bit overload, but still, I think it’s worth it.

Second. When you first encounter the troll, it is, I think, on floor six from the top. In all the walkthroughs I read, it says to stock up on healing potions, but I’ve got a better solution for you. In the walkthroughs, they will tell you a place, where you can eliminate the spiders that are there before the troll. It has closing gate. Well… Why not lure the troll there? It will allow you to rest between blows and regain your helth. Also, trolls cannot open any kind of door. As far as I know. Good to know, right?

Third. On floor Ten? I think it is ten. Well, basically, the second part of the temple. There are these weird fanatycal acolytic creatures whose name starts with G. However, that does not matter. What does, though, is the fact, that these morrons can open doors and gates that are openable from both sides. And trust me, it will complicate the situation a great deal! I admit that they can be defeated even through opening door, but still, it takes a lot more concentration to let them open it, slice them, and immediatelly close it again. And do this for as long as they breath.

Legend_of_Grimrock_screenshot_04 (1)

Fourth. Respwaning lizards on floor nine. Use them! Use them! They give quite a lot of experience. Noone says you have to clear the game fast. Enjoy it.

If you are not using any walkthroughs to help you, I suggest trying to jump in all the trapdoors. Only, save right before you do. Some lead to secrets, but some lead to your doom. Also, look closely on the walls. There are hidden buttons. And many of them open secret doors. And in the secret doors, there are a lot of powerfull stuff. And usefull stuff too!

Fifth and last. Use your brain. And save often. The game can kill you within seconds. However, if you are not sure, you are saving in a good position, create new slot so that if it is saved at a wrong time, you can load earlier position and try a different approach.

Legend_of_Grimrock_screenshot_04

Hope this helps some. And also, I’m not detailing the last three floors. Not at all, as I haven’t completed the game yet. And probably won’t for a long time. I mean, I was in the remote part of floor eleven that is just a breather between ten and twelve (The Prison), but then, I just trekked the whole way back up to level one. Why? Well… I wanted to go it again and look at every nook and cranny to find all I missed before because of the monsters. And then, I will stop by the respawning ice lizards to gain a few more levels. I think I will need it in order to beat the last three levels. No offence, but I think level twelve is not enough. Not with what I read about hordes of monsters, respwaning acolytes, golems, and of course, the undying one, or something…

Okay.

See ya.
