Skyrim

Several years ago I bought a game called Elder Scroll Series IV – Oblivion. You’re probably wondering what that has to do with Skyrim. Well, everything. As it was shortly after that that I got me Skyrim. Simply because I really enjoyed Oblivion and Skyrim was a sort of sequel to it. To be honest, when I first installed Skyrim, I decided that I absolutely hate it. And so it was left in a drawer for years. Then, I gave the original copy to my cousin’s son for when he got a good enough pc to play it on. But then I got into nightcore, which has, at first glance, even less to do with Skyrim than Oblivion. But, there was this nightcored song… The Dragonborn Comes. And I figured that it was from Skyrim. Which got me thinking…. That maybe it was time to give Skyrim another go. So I installed it through steam and started playing.

At first, I got frustrated because it didn’t support my gamepad. But then I decided that screw it, if I could successfully play Oblivion with mouse and keyboard as well as most of Assassin’s Creed games, then I will be just fine playing Skyrim with mouse and keyboard. Though the first thing I did was to play with the keyboard mapping. Made it a bit closer to Oblivion – aka jump with E and action with spacebar. Admittedly, it is still slightly confusing, as the game shows me the original key mapping when it gives hints, but hey, I can manage! I did with Resident Evil 4 and there the key mapping is really ridiculous…

So far, I’m not that far into the game, only just past High Hrotgar, but I’m enjoying it immensely. Though, there is one thing I really don’t like! And that is that you can’t equip spell alongside your bow! At least, I haven’t figured that out yet! In Oblivion, you could equip whatever weapon you wanted to and still cast! That is something I miss here in Skyrim. But I guess we can’t have it all…

Also, someone tell me how to disable the cinematic finishing blows in fight… Those are really annoying and interrupt the gameplay as well as disorient you as to where the next enemy is coming from…

Oh, and the NPC names are crazy! I know it is trying to imitate the nordic tribes and so on and so forth, but come on! I’ve met a lot of characters a lot of times by now and the only names I remember are Ilireth (or something like that) and Alvar. At least Oblivion had normal names… Or maybe it is because I’ve simply been playing Oblivion longer. That’s probably it.

A question for those who also play Skyrim. Do you play with subs on? I mean, I can understand the characters just fine, but usually, I finish reading what they have to say before they finish saying it. Do any of you have the same problem? And is it even a problem? Well, it is in the situation where you can not just skip the speech.

Anyway! I enjoy Skyrim and I hope that by the time I finish the quests I will be able to remember at least some of the names.

And my favorite NPC’s are from Oblivion. Too bad two out of three bit the dust…

Before I finish this post, one more thing. DLC for Skyrim. Is it worth it? I would like this answered by someone who actually played the DLC. Not by someone who just read about it or something. Thanks!

The One Thing I Hate About Fanfiction

Or… Maybe two. But for the time being, I’ll try to keep it on only one of them. The one I will write about is basically when you are looking for a good story. A summary of a story catches your attention and so you start reading. It even has all your favourite characters from the fandom.

And so you read, one chapter after another and then BAM! Suddenly, there are pairings in the story. And the pairings are completely what you don’t like. For example, in my case, I’m not a big fan of heterosexual pairings. I prefer yaoi or slash. But admittedly, there are a handfull exceptions to the rule, but that is beside the point. The point is, that I think, that pairings, if the story contains them, should always be written in the summary. Or at least if it’s slash, fem-slash or hetero.

I’ll give you an exmple of what I think it should not be like.

I recently read this great story. It had amazing idea, combining Bleach and Naruto in what I think is at least relatively original way. But! There was nothing about the pairings in the summary or any of the author’s notes in the chapters. So I was collosally dissapointed when Ichigo is paired with Orihime and Naruto with Hinata.

Nothing against those girls, but I just can’t get over certain pairings.

One of them being anything involving Orihime because I simply don’t like her. So I gues my previous statement that I have nothing against them, is null and void.

Another character that I can’t stand with one single exception, is Ginny Weasley. The only exception is in Batsutousai’s stories Abandon and Reclaim where she’s at least not paired up with Harry. I’m all for Ginny bashing, but like I said, in this one case, I have nothing against her.

And the last character that I enjoy reading when they bash her, is Tea (Anzu) from Yu-Gi-Oh! I just can’t help it. She seems like such a bitch! And again, you can have amazing stories, but the moment Yugi is paired with her, I stop reading regardless of how amazing the story is…

And that’s why I think these things should be mentioned in the summaries. Simply because then some of us won’t be waisting our times with stories that turn out to be not to our liking.

The worst, though, is when you manage to read almost the whole story only for it to have a pairing you detest in the last five chapters… In situations like this I feel like strangling the author. Because the stories I usually read, are above 100k words and it makes me feel like I just waisted SO MUCH TIME!

So a shout out to all the authors of fanfiction: Please, put the pairings in the summaries! Or at least leave a note wether it is slash, fem-slash or hetero! Or if it doesn’t have pairings at all, write that in the summary too!

Okay, I’m sorry, if I just offended someone, but it really drives me crazy when I’m reading a great story only for it to be ruined by a pairing I hate!

Now, I decided to mentione the other thing regarding fanfictoin that I hate. It is genderbending. Mainly from male to female! Gah! All the promising stories I had to stop reading simply because I can’t get over genderbending!

Just yesterday! I’ve read a story. It was from the Assassin’s Creed fandom. It focused on Ezio and how the others called him a she. At first, I thought it was simply because the author decided to make him more feminine, because I think that he could pull it off. But no! He was completely made into she. And there was nothing about it in the summary. And becuase I don’t always read the author’s notes, I overlooked the warnings where it was written. And only near the end, I managed to put two nad two together…

Annoying…

What is it with people and genderbending!

I mean, I managed to accept MPREG stories and it no longer so much as faze me, but I don’t think I will ever be able to get over genderbend. Simply because I prefer the characters in their male bodies. Because then there’s more slash going around.

I mean, if you want to put Harry together with I don’t know who.. Let’s go with Lucius for this example. It means you want them together regardless of the gender of either of them! So WHY THE HELL DO YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE GENDER?!

IT DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE!!!

So if anyone is reading this, explain to me what is so great about genderbending! Thanks.

Writing 101 – Day Seven: Give and Take

(Written on 18. 9. 2014 for Dailypost’s Writing 101)

This time, it’s to write about a contrast between two things. And you know? The first thing that came to my mind was to write about darkness and light and somehow incorporate my usual rant about darkness being the same as evil and light being good, because you know, that’s a total bulshit. Yeah, sure, Light and darkness are opposites and all that, that’s true. They are balanced and one can’t really exist without the other, but they are vastly different. With darkness is usually associated destruction and chaos. While that may be, I like to think that there can be other things to darkness. And as for light, usually healing is a part of light and also anything white.

Well, on the other hand, what if there is no light and darkness, just shades of gray that sometimes can seem white and sometimes gray?

And as for the comparsion of light and darkness to good and evil, I hate when people do that, because I’m of the opinion that light and darkness are just elements. Two of the seven primary elements. Yes, now you’re going to argue with me that there are only four, but hey! I can bend the rules, that’s why it’s called fantasy! Anyone can do anything they want with it. It’s not facts! So, for me, the seven primary elements are light, darkness, fire, water, earth wind and lightning. Because you just cannot forget lightning.

And I feel like I’ve written something like this before. And several times…

With that said, I’ll end this post and see you with the next one.

Writing 101 – Day Five: Be Brief

(Written on 18. 9. 2014 for Dailypost’s Writing 101)

So I find a letter… What’s in it? Probably a conspiration theroy of some kind. I love those. and if I were to find a letter I would hope it would be some kind of a prediction of DOOM. As for returning it to the person adressed to, yeah, sure, I would, but only if they let me join in the conspiration theory! I want in!

So I would look and see who it’s adressed to and I would go there and I would threaten them to turn the letter to the police or burn it (it probably contains something of importance the theorist’s don’t want to lose) if they didn’t let me join in on the fun.

How’s that?

What would be in your letter and what would you do with it?

Marvel

First of, I’m not gonna go into the comic-verse, only the movie verse. I never read the comic books and I never will. Comic books aren’t my style and I just cannot get over how some of the characters are drawn. Like Hawkeye, I mean, purple? Weird purple? Come on! After seeing him being portrayed by Renner, I just can’t imagine him in any other way! And I mean, Renner, who could say no to that?

So, that’s why I’ll never read the comic books, On the other hand, I never say no to going on the internet and finding more about specific characters. Not all but sometimes, further info is necessary.

However, I’ve watched practically everything that is part of MCU (Marvel cinematic universe). With the exception of Amazing spiderman 2, where I’m waiting for a better quallity to be available on the net. Maybe it’s already there, but I have yet to see it.

Still, the best thing about Marvel is that they created this whole universe that is interconnected in all their movies and even the comics, but as I haven’t read those, I can’t really talk. Still, the Marvel Cinematic Universe – MCU – is great and I love how it all ties together. I mean, for a while, the x-men stood alone, but in one of the other movies, I think it was in Captain America 2, in the after credits scene, there are Wanda and Pietro Maximoff – Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. And those are mutants and so it ties together nicely.

The whole idea is amazing and I’m eagerly awaiting the new movies that are announced. Like the one about Black Widow and Cap 3 as well as Avengers 2 and I also heard rumors about a third version of the Hulk movie, this one staring Mark Ruffalo, the one who played Banner in Avengers. I think it would be interesting. As it would have the same actor and I think that would be a plus.

So, I will probably write more about the individual movies as they come out or as I watch them, but I’m not making any promises. Still, MCU is amazing and I think you should watch the movies. As well as the TV series Agents of SHIELD and even the one shots that are basically very short films – like “Something funny happened on the way to Thor’s Hammer”.

Drafts or no drafts?

(Written on 21. 5. 2014)

draft-stamp-image

I’ve been wondering.

About what? The draft system that many blogging servers support. Basically, it means you write your post but save it as a draft and publish it later. Do you do this? Or do you publish everything immediatelly?

Me, I’ve got four blogs. One is just for my stories and fanfics and as such, I post there only when I’ve got enough lenghth of a story.

But my other three blogs, I’ve got them sorted out in a way when I post a post on each every three days. I rotate them. Each day I work on different one.

And through that day I might have more than one idea as to waht to write. But since I don’t know wether I will have an idea every day, I always post only one post, rarely two, when I want to get something technical out. But when I have more than one idea, I just write the post, add a note as to when it was written (didn’t do that just yet) and then I save the finished post as a draft and post it when I’m out of ideas.

Do you do something like this or not? I would be interested in your thoughts on this so please, share them in the comments.
